OB Beer has entered Korea’s soju market, announcing on Aug. 31 that it will launch ‘Chalang,’ a zero-sugar soju made with volcanic bedrock water from Jeju, at the end of September. The product has an alcohol content of 15% and will be produced entirely at OB Beer’s Jeju plant, formerly Jeju Soju.
Chalang is designed to reduce the artificial alcohol aroma and sweetness, while adding sea salt made from lava seawater to enhance its savory flavor. The bottle features a blue color inspired by the ocean and a neck design symbolizing gently rippling waves.
OB Beer plans to initially sell Chalang in Seoul, the greater Seoul metropolitan area and selected areas of Jeju. It will first be introduced through on-premise channels such as restaurants and bars, while sales through off-premise channels including supermarkets and convenience stores will be determined at a later date.
“Launching Chalang is part of our efforts to give consumers more choices by offering a wider range of products,” said Gu Ja-beom, senior vice president of OB Beer. “We will also continue to play a role in introducing Korean soju and K-culture to overseas markets.”
